Courses

In S1 and S2 pupils follow a combined social subjects course covering Geography, History and Modern Studies, they will also have lessons in Business Studies. In S3 pupils are able to select to follow any combination of these subjects are an individual course. The course aims to enable pupils to study a range of past and present topics which will encourage pupils to develop a sense of identity within Scotland and the wider world. A variety of skills are developed in Social Subjects including critical thinking, reasoning, debate and discussion and reaching conclusions based on evidence.

S1

There are two interdisciplinary themes that are studied in S1 Social Subjects:

Scottish Unit

  • The Birth of a Scottish Nation
  • Wild Weather
  • An Introduction to Democracy

Inequalities in the World Unit

  • The Wild West
  • Brazil
  • China

Pupils will experience each of these topics on a rotation throughout the course of the year.

S2

There are two interdisciplinary themes that are studied in S2 Social Subjects:

Scottish Unit

  • Changing Scotland in the 20th Century
  • Map Skills and National Parks
  • Nuclear Weapons in Scotland and the UK

Europe and the World Unit

  • The Holocaust
  • Earth Forces
  • Human Rights around the Globe

Pupils will experience each of these topics on a rotation throughout the course of the year.

In the senior phase pupils can choose from a wide selection of courses
